These data were collated as part of the PHYTO-THREATS project: Global threats from Phytophthora species (https://www.forestresearch.gov.uk/research/global-threats-from-phytophthora-spp/). The work was supported by a grant funded jointly by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural affairs, the Economic and Social Research Council, the Forestry Commission, the Natural Environment Research Council and the Scottish Government, under the Tree Health and Plant Biosecurity Initiative (project reference BB/N023463/1).



Horizon-scanning for future pathogen threats using host-pathogen databases

We have explored whether biological traits and evolutionary relationships between Phytophthora pathogens could be used to predict which Phytophthora species may have the potential to attack a very broad taxonomic range of host plants. This is a ranked list of the Phytophthora species with the most under-reported number of host plant families relative to our model predictions. These species have similar biological traits and/or are closely related to other broad host range Phytophthora pathogens, but have only recently been described and may have a much broader range of host plant families than is currently known.
